The Hiang Tiang Siang Ti (Deity of the North) Temple is dedicated to the Taoist deity of the same name and was a very simple building when it was first built more than one hundred years ago by the Teochew immigrants from China. The current structure of the temple was built to replace the original temple located at the previous Soon Hong Street (now known as the Main Bazaar) in 1863. It was razed by fire in 1884 and again rebuilt in 1889. It features a small turtle pool and has a stage for opera performances to entertain the deities. Today, Hiang Tiang Siang Ti Temple is well-known as a sacred place of worship for devotees and as a historical cultural heritage attraction for both local and foreign visitors.
