Talk on Proboscis Monkey in Sarawak

August 12, 2017

Proboscis monkeys, a large primate with distinctive features between its males and females, are exclusively found in the rainforests of Borneo. The male Proboscis monkey is not only one of the largest monkeys in Asia but they are also one of the world’s most distinctive mammals, having a long and fleshy nose and a large, swollen stomach.

However today, the proboscis monkey is extremely threatened in its natural environment and the unique habitats where it is found.

To tell of how unique these primates are, the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre will be organizing a public talk entitled “Proboscis Monkey in Sarawak”.

The speaker, Mr Oswald Braken Tisen from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn. Bhd. will present an overview of the status of proboscis monkey in Sarawak.

The talk will take place at 3.00 pm on 12 August 2017, Saturday at Telang Usan Hotel in Kuching. The talk is open to members of the public, and school and university students are encouraged to attend the talk.
