As we embark upon the Visit Sarawak Campaign in 2019, Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) in collaboration with Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is organizing an “Indie Video Competition” of up to 3 minute short video clips of Sarawak, based on the theme “Sarawak More to Discover”.  This is to show the world that there is so much more to see, do, eat, and to experience in Sarawak, and so this could include Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festival, and many more.  The possibilities are only limited by your creativity.

A panel of selected independent judges will select the winning entry and the grand winner of this contest will take home the grand prize of RM 10,000 (Indie video) and RM1,500 (Instagram video).  All shortlisted videos will also be given prize incentives, participation certificates and merchandise from STF/STB.

This contest is open to the general public, targeting amateur video-makers and especially local Sarawakians.


  1. Content of video (in line with the theme/ slogan stated above)
  2. Creativity of video
  3. Originality and entertainment value
  4. Effectiveness in reaching to the target audience
  5. Accuracy of Information
  6. Overall quality of video

Entries/Shortlisted postings will be judged by a panel of selected judges appointed by STF & STB, which will include professional videographers, influencers and other tourism related industry players.


The video must not contain materials that is obscene, defamatory, libelous, pornographic or encourages conduct that would be considered a criminal offence or violates any law. Videos must be appropriate for viewing by the general public.

By submitting a video, entrants agree that

  1. They are the owner/ copyright holder of the film
  2. To assign all rights to STF and STB to use their videos for marketing, promotion, information and education purposes, at no cost. STF and STB reserve the right to publicize and promote the videos for the purposes of tourism.
  3. They are submitting a final HD quality or higher to the competition.

If, in case, it is discovered, after the prize has been awarded, that the entrant has violated any rule of this competition, the entrant will be required to publicly apologize, and return the prize or the equivalent value to the organizers.

STF and STB does not assume responsibility or liability for any video or portion thereof, or for any claims, damages, or losses resulting from the use of any video submitted in this contest.

Each submission will be coded and details of participant will not be disclosed to the panel of judges, to be fair.  The judges’ decision is final. Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules, guidelines and decisions of the judges.
