NEW COOL COLLECTIVE – The Netherlands Band to Perform at Borneo Jazz 2012

KUCHING, March 6, 2012 – For three consecutive years since 2009, bands from Holland had enlivened the Borneo Jazz Festival in Miri with their Dutch flavours.

Coming May 11-12, another Dutch band, the New Cool Collective, will make their debut appearance on Borneo Jazz stage. As a pioneer of Dutch jazz, the band was long regarded as the ugly duckling of the scene. Jazz purists found their ‘soul jazz latin flavours nineties vibe’ too hard and fast. But once a group of younger club goers found their way to Café Meander where the sizzling orchestra played regularly, the dam burst.

The band made up of saxophonist Benjamin Herman, guitarist Anton Goudsmit, drummer Joost Kroon, percussionists Frank van Dok and Jos de Haas, pianist Willem Friede, bassist Leslie Lopez and trumpet-player David Rockefeller.

Now everyone, both jazz lovers and haters, go to their concerts. NCC has won an Edison, the Heineken Crossover Music Award and the Gouden Notenkraker. In the recent years, they have toured England, Germany, Benelux, Africa, Canada, Russia and Japan. They have not only played in the hippest clubs but also in giant rock and pop festivals such as Roskilde festival in Denmark, Sziget in Hungary, Pinkpop and Lowlands in the Netherlands, Camden Mix Festival in London, and the Aberdeen Alternative Festival in Scotland.

The Jazz festival in Miri will mark their first ‘music adventure’ in Borneo and consequently, their inaugural appearance in South East Asia.

Borneo Jazz 2012 takes place in Miri from 11-12 May 2012. Be sure not to miss this opportunity to witness international bands performing near home. Promotional tickets are now available online. So hurry and grab your tickets.
