Kuching: A group of 6 high profile media from Switzerland is currently on a visit to Sarawak as part of their tour to the East Malaysian states of Sabah & Sarawak. They arrived in the capital city from Kota Kinabalu. Accompanying them was representative for Tourism Malaysia PR Agency in Switzerland – Panta Rhei. Tourism Malaysia, Frankfurt and Singapore Airlines, Zurich.

Whilst in Sarawak the group visited the Semenggoh Rehabilitation Centre and the Bako National Park among others, to enable them to experience for themselves the destination so that they will be able to write up on their experiences about the destination in their publications. The group comprised media from leading publications in Switzerland and caters mainly for the Swiss German speaking markets.

This trip, made possible through the assistance of Singapore Airlines, Zurich and Tourism Malaysia, Frankfurt, is the outcome of Sarawak’s marketing efforts and presence in these regions and Sarawak Tourism Board’s strategy of promoting the destination as a place where adventure lives, has no doubt appealed to them to assist us in publicising the destination.

Whilst in Kuching, the group were guests of Sarawak Tourism Board and at a dinner hosted in their honour, the journalists commented that, “Sarawak, Borneo is indeed a place which has the attractions that will appeal to the targeted markets. We will definitely be able to publicise and advertise your destination.” The visit also resulted in positive networking and collaboration between the parties.

According to Mr. Dominik Joos- Managing Partner for the Tourism Malaysia PR Agency in Switzerland – Panta Rhei, “Sarawak has many to offer; nature, wildlife modern city but maintain the old charm, where the idea of maintaining an old building structure and converting them into a landmark or restaurant is an attraction itself. This is what the Swiss people want to experience. And adding not only the Swiss but most European will travel more than 10 days to a destination; whereby visiting homestay can also be another attraction”.  Definitely he will come back to Sarawak but with his family next time, he added.

Europeremains as one of our traditional markets and the Board continues to maintain its presence there. As part of its strategies and initiatives, the Board will continue to collaborate with the media in promoting the destination
