Sibu
Much of Sibu’s history is very much visible today as visitors can stroll along the back lanes of Sibu town to find old shop houses that are still operating today. These streets were the first settlements or business centres for the Chinese when they first arrived in Sibu, and the existing buildings fashioned with old architecture showcases the culture and the livelihood of the people that have survived over generations till today. These buildings also set Sibu apart from Kuching, as unlike the structures that were mostly built by the British in Kuching, the ones in Sibu were built by the Sibu community.
Climate
Sibu generally enjoys warm weather all year round, with average temperatures ranging from 23°C to 31°C. The town also experiences a substantial amount of showers throughout the year, with an average annual rainfall of 3500 millimetres.
