The fort, renamed in 1925 to honour Ranee Sylvia, wife of Charles Vyner Brooke is a historical landmark as it was witness to a peacekeeping ceremony between the Iban, Kayan, Kenyah and Kajang held in the presence of Rajah Charles Brooke. Currently, Fort Sylvia is a museum within the fort itself.
